YD's Diary #16 Guestology? lol , Projectology!
For my birthday, company's boss let me choose a book
as a gift. Since I’ve been using AI more and more in my work, I started wondering—what kind of philosophy and skills do I need to thrive in this new
environment? That curiosity led me to pick up The Extinction of Experience.
Using AI has expanded the way I think. The scope
of ideas I can explore has grown, and the quality of my output has noticeably
improved. Even in areas where human experience used to be irreplaceable, AI has
become a powerful ally. So when I saw the title The Extinction of Experience,
I was intrigued—what
could that possibly mean?
Turns out, it’s a pretty intense philosophy book. Every page feels
like it contains a full-blown philosophical concept. In the past, I probably
wouldn’t have dared to read something like this—or I would’ve skimmed through it without
really understanding. But now, with AI by my side, I can actually grasp the
ideas and engage with the content.
[From Disney’s Guestology to My Projectology]
One chapter that really stuck with me was about
Disney. Their employees aren’t just staff—they’re
called Cast Members. And Disney doesn’t just
serve customers; they study them through a concept called Guestology—the science of understanding and designing for guests.
That got me thinking about myself in company. We call
ourselves Enablers—people who fulfill customer needs through successful project
execution. Since we’re a project-based organization,
the word Projectology popped into my head.
I looked it up and found that it already exists,
but in a completely different context. Still, what if we gave it a new
definition?
What if Projectology meant “the study of people who deliver project outcomes”? For a company like Samsung E&A, where projects are the core of our business, this could be a fascinating concept.
[Rethinking My Identity]
Recently, I transitioned into a new role. One piece of feedback I received was that I tend to approach
everything through the lens of a project. That made me pause and reflect on my identity.
Looking back:
·
10 years in project execution(CAPEX)
·
5 years in RM and PMO
·
3 years in proposal work
·
2 years in FEL (DEVEX)
·
Now diving into financing and OPEX
No matter what I do, I always find myself thinking
in terms of project (FEL, Proposal, Execution, Operation). But I realize that I need a change to survive.
In the end, survival is just survival—but
in the midst of it, a word surfaced that stirred something in me, so I wrote
this.
[Projectology—the study of people who create and deliver projects] - Wouldn't it be nice?
It’s not just about Gantt charts and timelines. It’s about understanding the mindset, creativity, and collaboration that go into making something real, specially for communication between people.
